WRI Scholarships

Over the past four years, the WRI has established a number of scholarships for CSUSB students in water-related curricula. Currently, the University has three such programs-a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Geology and two graduate programs-an MPA with a water resources management specialization and a Master's Degree in Environmental Education.

The scholarships have largely been the result of the WRI's Lifetime Achievement Award banquets, which have endowed scholarships in the names of our honorees. Two scholarships have been created outside the Lifetime Achievement Award process, both named after individuals who were active in the water community and who passed away recently.

Following is a list of scholarships for CSUSB's water students:

  • Ruben S. Ayala Scholarship. Endowed scholarship of $10,000. For academic year 2005-2006, there will also be a Ruben Ayala expendable scholarship of $4,000.
  • Lois Krieger-Western Municipal Water District Scholarship. Endowed scholarship of $20,000, donated by the Western Municipal Water District of Riverside County.
  • Lois Krieger-Metropolitan Water District Scholarship. Endowed scholarship of $20,000, donated by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
  • Krieger & Stewart Scholarship Honoring James H. and Lois B. Krieger. Endowed scholarship of $10,000.
  • John Brudin Scholarship. Endowed scholarship of $10,000.

The following two scholarships have been formed to honor water leaders who have recently died:

  • Jim Roddy Endowed Scholarship. Endowed scholarship of $10,000 to honor a longtime member of the LAFCO board who worked with water agencies on annexations and other issues. Funds for this scholarship were donated by the East Valley Water District.
  • Doyle F. Boen Scholarship. This is currently an expendable scholarship, but the donor, Eastern Municipal Water District, hopes to add the requisite funding for an endowed scholarship.

Endowed scholarships are permanent funds that generate interest that can be used on an annual basis for scholarships. An endowed scholarship fund can be added to at any time. The greater the amount in the endowment, the more interest it will generate and the larger the available scholarship in a given year.

For further information on any of these scholarships, contact the CSUSB Financial Aid office or visit the Financial Aid web site, http://finaid.csusb.edu .
